Honestly I never much looked into it. But if you notice next to people's names you get the option to give people a thumbs up or down. Think the karma just lets people tell other people if somebody's a douchebag.

I don't think you can give Karma to yourself, only to other people. I gave you a thumbs up on this thread which increased your Karma by one. you should give me a thumbs up and increase my Karma....
